Vancouver C began in the neuroscience of meditation and altered states, mapping what happens to the sense of time when attention turns all the way inward. That work led her to the hardest measurement problem in near-death research: not whether an experience was vivid, but when its pieces actually happened. With CF Dietz she wrote The Temporal Localization Problem in Near-Death Research, which recasts a near-death report as an inverse problem and asks investigators to estimate the timing of information, experience, memory, and report separately for every element, rather than assigning a whole narrative to one dramatic instant. The paper earned her the doctorate from the Academy. She teaches at the meeting point of clinical rigor and first-person experience, happiest holding a strong claim to a strict standard of evidence without ever treating a person's report as merely data.
