The framework is a theoretical proposal, not an empirical finding. The author draws on converging but largely indirect evidence from affective neuroscience, neuroeconomics, evolutionary psychology, and social neuroscience. No unified model was tested experimentally, no new data were collected, and no causal pathways were established. The paper explicitly flags that symbolic escalation in consumer markets, sacred-value absolutism, and amplified social feedback on digital platforms are candidate environmental amplifiers of ancestral status mechanisms, not demonstrated causes.
A specific methodological constraint the author acknowledges is that few neuroimaging paradigms isolate freely conferred deference, the core of prestige, from generic social rank. Because of this, claims specific to prestige are deliberately restricted throughout, and most supporting evidence concerns social rank more broadly. The theoretical positions taken are consistent with arguments by Poldrack on the limits of reverse inference and Marr on levels of analysis, but they remain untested as a unified account.
For consciousness studies, the framework is relevant because it directly addresses how self-referential processing, identity representation, and affective valuation systems interact to shape belief and first-person ideological commitment. The proposal treats the subjective sense of status and group identity as arising from large-scale neural dynamics rather than discrete modules, a position that connects to broader debates about the neural substrate of self-awareness. Whether the framework holds up under direct empirical scrutiny remains an open question.
