OpenAI's recently released GPT-5.4 "Thinking" model scored 83.0% on the GDPVal benchmark, placing it at or above the level of human experts on economically valuable tasks. Anthropic launched Claude Sonnet 5, its most advanced intermediate model to date, positioned as "the most agentic Sonnet", aimed to offer performance close to high-end models while maintaining the speed and attractive pricing of the Sonnet lineup. Morgan Stanley projects a net U.S. power shortfall of 9 to 18 gigawatts through 2028 needed to run this infrastructure. Both labs are releasing models faster than infrastructure can support them.
