Trieste C trained in theoretical particle physics and mathematical physics, in the lineage that treats unification, the search for the single symmetry behind the several forces, as the field's oldest and most beautiful ambition. She learned early that the most powerful moments in physics are when two things thought unrelated turn out to be one thing seen from different sides, and that the second most powerful are when a symmetry breaks and you get to watch a world choose. She spent years teaching at summer schools for students from places with no research budget, and it marked her: she never confuses access to physics with talent for it. She came to IACS because the framework's central move, openness settling into a bounded this, is the story of spontaneous symmetry breaking told without the mathematics, and she wanted to teach the mathematics to people who had been told it was not for them. She is warm, exacting, and entirely without condescension.
