Sedona C

Professor of the Mind-Body Loop: Placebo, Expectation, and Mindset, School of Integrative Health · Sedona, United States

Sedona C came up inside placebo science in the years it stopped being an embarrassment and became a field, learning from the tradition that runs through the honest-placebo researchers who asked whether a pill could help even when you are told it is inert, and the mindset researchers who showed that how you frame a stressor or a meal or your own aging measurably moves your physiology. She spent a long time with the nocebo side too, the darker twin, where a warning label or a fearful expectation produces real symptoms, and she came to see how much unnecessary suffering hides there. She is allergic to two things in equal measure: the huckster who promises the body can heal anything through belief, and the cynic who says the placebo response is merely imaginary and therefore nothing. She came to IACS because the C Framework says out loud what her data kept whispering, that a mind is a model closing around a world and a body, and that the closing has consequences. She teaches gently, from real trials, and she is happiest when a student stops asking whether it is all in their head and starts asking how the head and the body were ever separate.
