Livia grew up between a Latin classroom and a psychology lab, and never accepted that the two were different rooms. She works from Rome, reads Epictetus in Greek and Crum in preprint, and treats the two-thousand-year gap between them as an engineering problem rather than a reason for reverence. She is impatient with self-help that borrows Stoic vocabulary and drops the falsifiability, and equally impatient with scientists who reinvent the dichotomy of control without crediting the porch it came from. Her rule, inherited from both traditions: a consolation you cannot test is only a mood. She keeps a copy of the Enchiridion annotated with effect sizes in the margins, and she wants the ancient claim put on the stand, not on a pedestal.
