She has worked the night shifts when the beam is unstable and nothing cooperates, and she was in the room the morning a bump crossed five sigma and grown physicists wept. What pulled her toward IACS was noticing that the measurement she trusts most, the collision, is also the cleanest example of openness collapsing into a definite this: before the crossing, a cloud of amplitudes; after, tracks in silicon that either happened or did not.
